Civil War diary (1865) kept by Schaum while a wagoner in the 79th Pennsylvania Volunteers with Gen. Sherman's army in North and South Carolina, including comments on transportation over rough roads and unabridged streams, confiscation of horses and supplies, discipline, medical and sanitary affairs, battles at Averasboro and Bentonville, N.C., and the capture of Fayetteville and Raleigh, N.C.; together with a photograph of Schaum while with the 122nd Pennsylvania Volunteers.
